Germany and the Fight for Freedom

Excerpt

This book is devoted to our efforts to secure a free Europe as a part of a stable and peaceful world. When I was invited to deliver the Godkin lectures last summer, I replied that I would be willing to do so only if the invitation was repeated this year as an indication that there was still a public interest in the German problem. The renewal of the invitation showed that there was still an active interest. This is most important, because public interest is essential to a sound solution, and the solution, sound or otherwise, is certain to influence substantially the outcome of the present and continuing struggle for a free world.
