Greece at the Polls: The National Elections of 1974 and 1977 is another in the continuing series of studies of national elections in selected democratic countries published by the American Enterprise Institute. Underlying the series is the belief that public policy makers and students of elections in each democracy can profit from a knowledge of electoral practices in a wide variety of other democracies. The greater their understanding of the political consequences of the conduct of elections in other countries, the deeper their insights into the impact of electoral rules and practices at home.

As of mid-1981 the At the Polls series includes books on at least one election in Australia, Canada, France, West Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, three of the four continental Scandinavian democracies, the United Kingdom, and Venezuela. Volumes on more recent elections in Canada, France, West Germany, India, Italy, and Japan are nearing completion. Books on elections in Belgium, Colombia, Jamaica, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain are in progress or planned. AEI has also published two studies of referendums and Democracy at the Polls: A Comparative Study of Competitive National Elections on the conduct of elections in twenty-eight democracies. A volume on the election of representatives from nine countries to the European Parliament will appear in the winter of 1981-1982. Finally, a new group of books will approach aspects of electoral politics crossnationally. Volumes underway on left-wing parties in Western Europe, women in national politics, public financing of election campaigns and political parties, and candidate selection and its impact on party systems will combine essays already published in the series with a new analysis of the similarities and differences among them.
