The Forum and the Palatine

Excerpt

This book is not merely a translation of the Forum und Palatin, which was published in 1926, but a new edition, as Professor Huelsen read the translation through twice, once in manuscript and the second time in proof, making extensive changes and numerous suggestions both verbal and topographical. His emendations and additions add greatly to the value of the book. Furthermore, his fifteen pages of references to Sources and Recent Literature will be invaluable to the student of Roman Topography who wishes to make a detailed study of the monuments and their remains.

My thanks are due to Professor William A. Boring, Head of the School of Architecture at Columbia University, who kindly read the translation through in manuscript in order to pass upon the technical architectural terms, to Professor David M. Robinson, Professor of Archaeology at the Johns Hopkins University, and finally to my friend and colleague at Hunter College, Professor Margaret B. Wilson, who assisted greatly in the reading of the proofs.

HELEEN H. TANZER.
