The bible is the most translated book in the world! No other writing, or collection of writings, either sacred or secular, has been translated so often, or into so many languages and dialects. When the American Bible Society produced, in 1938, its admirable Book of a Thousand Tongues , edited byDr. Eric North, the title was a correct description of the Bible. Now the number is over eleven hundred---1151 Bibles or parts of Bibles.

The translation of Holy Scripture into languages spoken where Christian missionaries are at work is an obviously practical step, often with consequences reaching far beyond the conversion and edification of a group of new Christians who know only their own tongue.
