The seizure of the Telephone Building

THE hour was one-thirty in the morning, the date December 20, 1943. The sleeping city of La Paz was cloaked in silence. Along Mercado Street a band of armed men cautiously advanced on the unguarded Telephone Building, where a few employees were on night duty. The intruders levelled their guns and the staff surrendered without trying to resist.
