Appendix A clarifies, updates, supplements, revises, and corrects Art and Architecture in the Poetry of Robert Browning: An Illustrated Compendium of Sources. Appendix A is designed after and is to be used in conjunction with the Compendium. Clarification of the Compendium is primarily assigned in Appendix A to the Introduction; updating and supplementation to the Citations and Notes, and to the Illustrations; and revision and correction are placed in a new section titled Corrections and Revisions. the Introduction has overarching scope: it covers a review of the foundation studies leading up to the Compendium and Appendix A, definitions of terms, and a statement of significance for the whole study. the Citations and Notes contain supplementary material that adds to or comments on the sources and analyses given in the Compendium. the Illustrations continue from the numbering in the Compendium. End sections also clarify, update, supplement, revise, and correct the Compendium. These end sections are, in addition to the Corrections and Revisions, the Chronology, the Summary of Composite Sources, the Index of Artists, the Index of Sources with Locations, the Index of Miscellaneous Sources, the Key to Bibliography, and the maps of Florence and Rome.

The updating and supplementing of the citations, notes, and illustrations further enrich the content of this study. the additional sources entered in Appendix A number about 60; some 35 of these, I would say, are being introduced into Browning studies for the first time. the total number of analyses in Appendix A amounts to about 40; the vast portion of these, I surmise, is fresh. of special novelty and interest in Appendix A are the source studies and analyses of pictures, sculpture, and architecture entered under Christmas-Eve and Easter-Day, "Cleon," "Eurydice to Orpheus," Fifine at the Fair, "Flute-Music, with an Accompaniment," "A Grammarian's Funeral," "Inapprehensiveness," "My Last Duchess" in conjunction with Pippa Passes . . .
