Soviet Russia is a new force in the world. This book, springing from the experience of a prolonged and in some respects perhaps unique personal visit north, south, east and west, in which no doors were shut and no interviews denied, and continued through close subsequent study of contemporary movements in Russia, aims at describing more fully and in greater detail the constitution and spirit of a new civilization which embraces many nationalities and groupings of peoples, studying the individuals which the Soviet Union produces: their nurture, and the moral, scientific and economic bases on which, on its material side, it all rests.
