There is every reason to believe that this book will evoke vigorous comment, both pro and con. It deals with a subject—the 1952 presidential campaign and its treatment in certain newspapers—which is still an emotional storm center. This study, I believe, is thoroughly accurate and honest. It is a sound investigation, in large part allowing the data to tell their own story.

The author is a teacher and working newspaperman. Dr. Blumberg, Assistant Professor of Journalism at the University of Nebraska, served for three years as associate editor of the Lincoln Star and during the 1952 campaign closely watched the very campaign news that he has studied in this project. He has applied standards of judgment which are rooted in the practical problems of editing, heading up and laying out the news for the daily editions of metropolitan newspapers. To his practical experience he added the impartial techniques of orthodox academic research.
