This study makes available the collected writings of John Hoskyns and brings together biographical facts about this versatile, distinguished wit, lawyer, parliamentarian, and stylist.

Much of the material of this book was presented, in somewhat different form, to the Faculty of the Graduate School of Yale University in partial fulfilment of the requirement for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.
