Leo Tolstoy, an Annotated Bibliography of English Language Sources to 1978

Excerpt

The purpose of this bibliography is to provide a modern central listing of English language publications about Leo Tolstoy. Since serious research on Tolstoy must begin with the many Russian language critical studies of Tolstoy as well as with his own formal writings, diaries and correspondences, this bibliography is primarily directed at those who are unable to read Russian or who are interested in Tolstoy as he has been portrayed by Western analysts. For such individuals, this annotated, categorized, indexed and cross- referenced list should be of considerable value.

Included through 1977 are: - books: annotated - essays: annotated - chapters from general studies: annotated - periodical articles: annotated when obscured by title or when part of an anthology - introductions and prefaces to Tolstoy's works - reviews of Tolstoy's works and of monographs about him (a selection) - sermons and lectures - study guides to Tolstoy's major works - doctoral dissertations
