Excerpt

This volume presents comparative statistics of Germany's postwar elections as well as outlines of political parties and biographic sketches of government and political leaders. It is substantially based on two previous publications of this office: Elections in Germany, published in 1947; and Political Parties in Western Germany, which appeared in 1949. The narrative, however, has been entirely recast and extended to include the Soviet Zone.

This volume was prepared by Mr. Alexander R. Forest, Policy Reports Secretary, and his staff. The major responsibility for the text was borne by Mr. Paul W. Freedman, Assistant Secretary for Reports, and Dr. Egon de Kamarasy. In the absence of the above, final editing and supervision of reproduction were done by Mr. Helmut Kahn and Mr. A. L. Binkley. Valuable contributions were made by other members of the staff, notably Mr. Paul Roggenbrod and Dr. Franz A. Rosenberger, who is responsible for the graphics.
