As Germany enters the 21st century, it faces a variety of political, economic and social problems that put the recently united country to the test. Experiencing a dual crisis, Germany's challenge is to manage both the transformation to a post industrial society and the effects of unification. International scholars address the different aspects of the predicaments Germany finds itself in, and reflect concerns and questions that have been raised about the future of the German model in the broadest sense.
