Excerpt

It has been a great experience to me during my long tenure of office in London to witness the growing British interest in Carl Nielsen.

He had deep roots in the Danish countryside; he drew his strength and inspiration from its people and nature, and it may be that it was this his Danish originality which for some time made it rather difficult for others to appreciate his music. However, as soon as the Danish State Radio Orchestra had the opportunity to interpret his symphonies in Edinburgh and London, he was widely acclaimed as one of the great composers of this century.

There is now an insistent demand for factual information about Carl Nielsen and his music, and I therefore welcome this concise survey which so well answers most of the questions asked. The author and the publishers are indeed to be congratulated on their fine work.

REVENTLOW, Danish Ambassador.
