It describes the development of family-planning programs in a number of countries, presents what is now being done on several biomedical and social topics, and reviews some major programs of international assistance. As editor, I am grateful to the various participants for their collaborative presentation of an up-to-date body of information on this important movement. This volume originated as a series of talks in the Forum program of the Voice of America. I am personally grateful to Theodore A. Wertime, Forum editor, for his help and encouragement in the organization of this series.Irvington-on-Hudson, New York
