Questia, your online research library and paper writing resource, contains thousands of scholarly articles and books about Special Education.

Special Education refers to the education provided to students with special needs. In the United States, as per the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), all students with disabilities are guaranteed free public education in the least restrictive environment possible. Special needs include cognitive and developmental disabilities, socioemotional and psychological problems, hearing and vision impairment, and language differences.

Students receiving special education are entitled to an Individualized Education Program (IEP) which outlines a course of educational and special services provided to that particular student. Many students with special needs will receive collaborative support from a team of specialists, depending on their individual needs. These specialists can include classroom teachers, literacy specialists, psychologists, social workers, and occupational therapists.
