Earning credit

ABA has announced alliances with two leading universities that will enable Stonier Graduate School of Banking students to receive credits toward an MBA degree.

Stonier graduates wilt be eligible for up to nine academic credits through Indiana University's Kelley School of Business or the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass) Isenberg School of Management online graduate programs.

"Online MBA programs have been increasing in popularity and appeal," said Don Mengedoth, chairman of the Stonier Board of Advisers and past ABA president. "This is a wonderful opportunity for Stonier students and graduates to expand their banking education and such prestigious schools like Indiana University and Umass."

IU's Kelley School of Business offers a web-based MBA, as well as master's degrees in finance, strategic management and global supply chain management. The school will award a Stonier graduate up to nine academic credits toward an MBA and up to six credits toward a master's.

UMass will award Stonier graduates nine academic credits toward meeting the course requirements for the Umass online MBA.

The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business accredits both universities' MBA programs. In an October 2001 study, U.S. News and World Report listed both schools' online degree programs among the top 25 in the country.

MPF volume grows

The total amount of outstanding loans under the Federal Home Loan Banks' Mortgage Partnership Finance Program almost doubled from $27.1 billion to $53.6 billion in the 12 months ending March 31. according to MPF, a program endorsed by ABA's Corporation for American Banking.

The ABA-MPF strategic marketing alliance enables community banks to lower risk in their mortgage loan programs while gaining improved access to the secondary mortgage market.
