2004 Week of the Classroom Teacher: A Time to Celebrate Those Who Teach

As the new Public Relations Manager at ACEI, I am delighted to be engaged in a program as far-reaching and meaningful as Week of the Classroom Teacher. This worldwide commemoration to honor the contributions and dedication of outstanding educators is a testament to the vital role of teachers in the lives of our children.

This year, Week of the Classroom Teacher is officially designated as May 2-8, although celebratory events can be held at any time that is most convenient for the sponsoring party. Proclamation requests have been sent to 30 governors; at publication time, eight proclamations have been received--from New Hampshire, Illinois, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Washington, South Carolina, and Rhode Island.

What can you do to help promote this important celebration?

* Begin planning now. Visit the ACEI Web site (www.acei.org) and download the free planning guide and ready-to-use materials, such as posters, bookmarks, letterhead, etc.

* Volunteer to be a state sponsor (see below).

* Share ideas:

* At Conference. Bring photos, write-ups, or other visual descriptions of your 2003 commemorative events to display in the Hall of Celebration at the Annual Conference in New Orleans. …
