Grants to Increase Substance Abuse Program Capacity Available to States:

States across the country may be able to enhance alcohol and other drug treatment services, use current resources to meet the growing and adapt the successes implemented in other states as result of a new Robert Johnson Foundation national grant program.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, based in Princeton, NJ., is the nation's largest philanthropy devoted exclusively to health and health care. It concentrates its grant making in four goal areas: to assure that all Americans have access to basic health care at reasonable cost; to improve care and support for people with chronic health conditions; to promote health communities and lifestyles, and to reduce the personal, social and economic harm caused by substance abuse-tobacco, alcohol and illicit drugs.

Twenty states will be selected to participated in a two-year Policy Forum on AOD Treatment and Financing. Five of those states will receive Planning and Analysis Grants of up to $200,000 to implement state-specific action plans within existing overall state spending levels.
