Network Upgrades Allows Easier Access

Article excerpt

The $425 million-assets Equitable Bank, based in Wauwatosa, Wisc., operates a ten-branch network serving over 35,000 families in the metropolitan Milwaukee region and is one of the largest real estate lenders in the area.

Business was booming but the bank's networks needed an overhaul. Time Warner Telecomm, a provider of managed voice data networking solutions, stepped in, signing a contract last December to deliver secure wide area network (WAN) connectivity, distributed computing, and voice services to the bank.

Since beginning the upgrade, the vendor has linked eight of Equitable Bank's branch offices and provided Ethernet connectivity between the bank's primary data center and a secondary facility, part of which serves as a warm back up site. The dedicated WAN also Lets the bank distribute centralized banking applications, with enough bandwidth for "growing room" as new applications get developed.

The remote access it supplies is also supporting line-of-business personnel. "Now, when loan officers are assigned to remote locations, they can link to applications that previously were only available in data facilities," Matter explains. …
