THE SAGA of the human race has been the struggle to survive, as individuals and as cultures. Our ancient ancestors' spears, bear skins, and fire were not their only tools for staying alive. They created languages that served as essential tools for communicating, thinking, cooperating, and solving problems. These language-oriented survival skills proved just as important as the skills for making stone tools.

Universally, on different continents in the distant past, our ancestors created and developed unique languages that made them powerful time-binders. Older generations passed on to younger generations the survival skills, beliefs, customs, and technical know-how necessary for maintaining and improving their ways of life.
