Library Services Fills a Variety of Member Information Needs

AICPA members can be justly proud of their library. It's one of the most comprehensive accounting and auditing libraries in the world, with nearly 29,000 books and bound journals, 77,000 pamphlets and 1,300 periodical titles. There is an impressive collection of annual reports from 1978 to 1990 on microfiche and 10Ks and annual reports since 1990 on a CD-ROM product. Subject coverage of the library goes beyond accounting, auditing and taxation to include extensive coverage of general and financial management, international business and information and statistics on a number of industry groups.

Karen Neloms, director of library services, says, "We have a wealth of information here. Members should realize it's their library and we're here to help them. " Many members do call on their library for assistance.

Requests answered recently included locating sample financial statements for a country club; finding the value of chickens in Delaware from 1986 to 1988; locating information on how to organize a tax-exempt entity; and providing a suggested list of books for an accountant's office.

On average, the library lends more than 15,000 publications each year and answers 28,000 telephone requests. It also welcomes an average of 50 researchers a day.

Many ways to help The library uses a number of information delivery techniques designed to assist AICPA members. Toll-free numbers make it attractive to call for assistance. Neloms says the turnaround time is "pretty quick," normally the next day.
