This is a special issue of the Journal of Comparative International Management which carries five papers and twenty-seven abstracts of papers presented at the 2004 International Conference of Business, Economics and Management Disciplines held at the Delta Fredericton in New Brunswick, Canada. Thirty-five papers were presented by scholars in eleven sessions to over fifty participants from fifteen countries. It was a truly international conference in spirit and representation.

The theme of the conference was "Managing in Turbulent Times." The first paper is a keynote speech on this theme by Professor Roy J. Adams. The other four papers passed through a two-step review process. In the first step, the Division Chairs of the Conference were asked to recommend one or two papers from their respective divisions for publication consideration in the Journal. This selection was based upon review reports and their own assessment of the papers. In the second step, those papers recommended for further consideration were sent out for external review. Based upon the review results these four papers were selected for inclusion in this special issue. …
