This issue of Italica has been possible, as usual, thanks to the work of many people. Amongst many, I am indebted to the Production Editor, Deborah Starewich, for having worked as fast as one could possibly ask on all the material that I sent her in a frantic timeframe; to the Book Review Editor, Mark Pietralunga, for organizing and editing the reviews with exact punctuality and precision; to my Research Assistant at Indiana, Nicholas Albanese, for his invaluable help with the correspondence and the daily business of editing a quarterly journal like ours.

In this first issue of 2005, we inaugurate the section on "Creative Writing," devoted to poetry and short fiction in Italian. We are very fortunate to open such a section with a cycle of unpublished poems by Alberto Bertoni, poet and writer, as well as Professor of Italian at the University of Bologna. All material for this section--not differently than scholarly papers--will be refereed by the editorial board and by specialist readers. …
