Cupped Ear/Psalm Sounds

Listen to the psalmist proclaim that "I shall not die, but I shall live" (v. 17) on Easter Day. This is the day that the Lord has made (v. 24), and we shout: Christ is Risen. Alleluia!

Hear the refrain of the words "steadfast love" sung four times in the first four verses. Steadfast love describes the character of God who will save and deliver his Exodus people. Steadfast love was incarnate in Jesus on Easter Day.

A second refrain is heard in verses 15-16: the "right hand of the Lord." Three times the Lord's right hand is victorious, mighty, and uplifted. The psalmist is echoing Moses' song in Exodus 15 where he too sings of God's "right hand" that saved them. On Easter Day, we celebrate Jesus Christ who sits at the "right hand of God."

Verse 22 recalls that the stone rejected by the builders as unsuitable becomes the cornerstone toward which the other building stones are oriented. A cornerstone usually suggests a big building, perhaps the Temple. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and Acts quote this verse in reference to Jesus' rejection by Israel. …
