Since becoming section editor for the Women in Physical Activity Journal over three years ago, I have had the opportunity to review numerous articles in the area of body image and disordered eating. It seemed logical to devote a partial journal issue to body image concerns and disordered eating to show the complexity and diversity embedded within this topic. Sharon Guthrie's qualitative piece represents the perceptions of identity and body image among lesbian former athletes. Erica Berman shares Canadian women's stories related to body image and physical activity. Jessica Doughty investigates the incidence of disordered eating within gymnastics over time and Justine Reel reports unique body image pressures faced by dancers. Jennifer Carter's piece enables us to get acquainted with the clinical side of screening student-athletes for disordered eating within the university setting. The voice of male athletes is represented here to demonstrate a knowledge gap within the body image literature, as males have been largely ignored. We hope you will enjoy the novel approaches adopted by the researchers to study body image and disordered eating within sport and movement contexts. …
