NEHA's Executive Coordinator Leaves Big Shoes under Desk

After nearly 12 years with NEHA, valued staff member Tabby Bernardo retired on December 30, 2005. As executive coordinator, Tabby worked closely with NEHA's executive director, the NEHA Board of Directors, and affiliate presidents. She performed a variety of administrative duties, in addition to managing board elections and policy changes. She served as "gatekeeper" for Executive Director Nelson Fabian and as liaison to the board, keeping board members' information current and coordinating NEHA-related travel. She also coordinated special programs such as the Mangold Award. During her tenure, Tabby developed a reputation for competence and consistency.

"I knew Tabby before I became an officer in NEHA through contacts at various AECs, " said current NEHA President Ron Grimes. "Having known several past presidents personally, I had always heard about this Tabby Bernardo who kept them focused on their job during their term in office. Until I became an officer and now president, I didn't realize how much of an understatement those comments were."

In addition to doing her job well, Tabby made a personal impression on those she worked with.

"What made Tabby so special was her positive way of seeing life and people, " said Executive Director Nelson Fabian. …
