As readers will note when they heft Volume 28 of CJLACS, a burst of enthusiasm has led us to bring you a double issue, combining numbers 55 and 56. In fall of 2002, a monographic issue focused on the crisis in Argentina and guest edited by Viviana Patroni of York University was already in preparation with some excellent work already submitted. At that point, Catherine LeGrand of McGill University came forward offering to edit another series of first rate papers that had emerged from an interdisciplinary and international gathering of experts on the crisis in Colombia.

We might have approached this abundance of excellent work on two different countries in serial fashion, publishing the Argentina issue, as scheduled, in July 2003 and Colombia in January 2004. However, in the interest of bringing readers the most current research in the most timely way possible, we have all collaborated closely to provide all of this material to you in one thick volume.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the extraordinarily dedicated and energetic efforts of the two guest editors, Viviana and Catherine, along with Annemarie Gallaugher, Daniel Bonilla and Claudia Leal who assisted in the process of editing. …
