"Young Health Care Executive of the Year" Named for 1993

Kevin E. Lofton, executive director and chief executive officer (CEO), Howard University Hospital, Washington, DC, has won the American College of Healthcare Executives' (ACHE) 1993 Robert S. Hudgens Award for "young health care executive of the year."

Lofton received his award on March 2, 1993, at the Arthur C. Bachmeyer Memorial Address and Luncheon during ACHE's 36th Congress on Administration at Chicago's downtown Hyatt Regency Hotel.

The Hudgens Award is presented annually by ACHE to an exceptional health care executive who is under 40 years of age and who is CEO or chief operating officer of a health services provider organization. The award was created in 1969 by the Alumni Association of the Department of Health Administration of the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, in tribute to its former course director, Robert S. Hudgens.

A member of ACHE, Lofton was selected from among numerous young health care executives who were nominated for the award by their professional colleagues. The six-member Hudgens Memorial Award Committee selected the winner based on demonstrated leadership, administrative ability, motivation, attitude, innovation, and creativity. …
