This is the 31st in the annual series of comprehensive analyses of R&D in the proposed U.S. federal budget for the coming fiscal year. Produced in collaboration with nearly 20 science and engineering associations, it includes nearly 40 tables and 26 chapters on R&D by agency, theme and discipline.

For 2007, the overall federal investment in R&D would increase to nearly $137 billion, but in a repeat of past budgets the continuing Bush Administration priorities of weapons development and space vehicles development would take up the entire increase and more, the analysis shows. As result, funding for the remainder of the R&D portfolio would fall, even after the ACI increases are taken into account. …
