Members of Local 540 of the Food and Commercial Workers overwhelmingly ratified a 2-year agreement for 1,200 production and maintenance employees at Campbell Soup Co. 's food processing plant in Paris, TX.

The contract provides wage increases of 3.5 percent in the first year and 35 cents an hour in the second year. At the expiration of the prior agreement, the average hourly wage rate was $11.12.

The agreement calls for several changes in health care benefits. It sets maximum annual out-of-pocket expenses at $1,200 and annual deductibles at $100 per individual and $300 per family. The pact establishes a prenatal care plan, and eliminates services to reverse sterilization, fertility testing, artificial insemination, and in vitro fertilization. It institutes a new hospice care program with reimbursement at 80 percent for up to 30 days of inpatient care and $5,000 in outpatient care. The contract establishes a 2-day notice for precertification for nonemergency hospital admission, with a $200 penalty for noncompliance, and adds full coverage for specific organ and tissue transplants, with up to $10,000 for transportation and living expenses for the employee and dependents. …
