Software for Surveillance and Follow-Up of Oral Vaccination of Foxes against Rabies in Europe

ICP, a computer program for the analysis of data from routine rabies diagnoses and from follow-up investigations of oral rabies immunization of foxes, has been developed by the Federal Research Centre for Virus Diseases of Animals, Wusterhausen, Germany. The program was produced using the CLIP-PER application development system and other commercially available IBM-compatible software. The results of the following can be entered into the program: biomarker detection; fluorescent antibody test of neuroblastoma cell culture virus isolation; serological investigation (date, seroconversion (yes/no)); and titre of virus neutralizing antibodies. The program will also accept the results of the following investigations: characterization of rabies field isolates (field or vaccine strain) using monoclonal antibodies; and echinococcosis-specific information, e.g., serological investigations ([EM.sub.2]-enzyme-linked immunological assay (ELISA)) and parasitological findings.

The program offers flexible assessments and output possibilities for the evaluation of oral immunization campaigns and the surveillance of rabies in vaccinated and unvaccinated areas, and when used in combination with other software packages the data can be presented graphically and/or in the form of maps. For further processing, e.g., for epidemiological or statistical analysis, the data can be prepared for export into other packages in xBASE or ASCII format. …
