Sourcing Solution Gives National City Purchasing Clarity

When it comes to working in a standardized way, creating a paper trait for supply purchases, and otherwise simplifying the vendor management process, there is help beyond the spreadsheet and manual records.

One portal-based solution from Atlanta-based Procuri, supports enterprise management of a once-decentralized function.

"It's Sourcing 101 to consolidate vendors and leverage volume," notes Jean-Jacques Beaussart, chief procurement officer for National City Bank, Cleveland. "But it can be a challenge to enforce these programs without the right processes and tools."

For about 18 months, the bank has been using Procuri's TotalSource for a range of purchases from the largest business process outsourcing projects to the purchase of more routine goods and services, giving project managers control over the full lifecycle from the RFP process to contract management. The application has helped them automate many purchasing-related selection functions.

"We work with a select group of suppliers and this helps us keep the purchasing function disciplined," says Beaussart. The CPO pointed out that National City, which favors a Six Sigma approach bank-wide to perfect many business processes, has yielded big savings with purchasing process renovation. …
