J. Elton Moore, former director of the Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (RRTC) on Blindness and Low Vision at Mississippi State University (MSU), was recently named associate dean for research and assessment at the university' s College of Education. Prior to receiving the appointment in July 2007, Dr. Moore had served as director of the RRTC at MSU since 1990, where he served as principal investigator and project director for a large number of federal grants and cooperative agreements funded through the U.S. Department of Education, and various contracts funded by state government agencies. He is a Giles Distinguished Professor at MSU, and holds a joint appointment as professor in the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology, and Special Education, where he teaches in the Rehabilitation Counseling Program. Dr. Moore has served on numerous editorial boards and as an associate editor for rehabilitation of JVIB. He is a former director of Mississippi Vocational Rehabilitation for the Blind, and a past president of the National Council of State Agencies for the Blind. As associate dean for research, Dr. Moore will be actively involved in coordinating the College of Education research agenda and assessment activities. He will assist faculty members in grant writing and publication activities. He will also act as liaison between the Dean's Office, the MSU Office of Institutional Research, Sponsored Programs Administration, and the associate deans for research in other colleges. Dr. Moore has served on peer-review panels for a number of federal agencies, including the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, the Rehabilitation Services Administration, the Office of Special Education Programs, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. …
