Many children, and adults, have been fascinated by Stephen Biesty's books of cross sections. Readers can spend hours gazing at the author/illustrator's incredibly detailed scenes that portray every person, activity and equipment connected with a building or ship. Now, Biesty's layered detail of an 18-century warship is accessible in a hyperlinked format on CD-ROM. With a click of the mouse button, users can jump from level to level and crew member to crew member. Animation, sound effects and narration add additional appeal.

Users can get access to detailed information on every part of the ship, every activity and every crew member from a number of different points. One way to explore the ship is via its individual crew members. By clicking on a button labeled "Meet the Crew," a user can choose to investigate the surgeon, gunner, captain, midshipman, ship's master, cook, purser, chaplain, boatswain, admiral, marine or seaman. Once a selection has been made, the screen changes to a journal entry for that specific crew member. Users can hear the selected crew member tell his story, or read the text without narration. …
