The Art of Fund-Raising: What Every Health Care Trustee Needs to Know, a new American Hospital Association (AHA) book by Edward Hugh Bovich, Edward Philip Bovich, Ph.d., and John Patrick Bovich, J.D., provides trustees of health care organizations with a guide to the development of new financial resources through the solicitation of charitable donations. The book describes the importance of fundraising in the context of the trustee's overall responsibilities and illumines 10 principles for demonstrating board leadership in various types of fundraising initiatives.

The book is divided into 13 chapters. The first three chapters provide an overview of the trustee's role in fundraising. Chapter 1 describes financial resource development as a component of exemplary trusteeship and argues for participation of the full board in fundraising activities. Chapter 2 surveys the role of the development officer and offers guidance on hiring a suitable professional and optimizing his or her effectiveness. Chapter 3 explores the essence of giving from the donor's perspective and explains the critical difference between fundraising and "getting money."
