On behalf of the ITEA Board of Directors and the Utah conference planning team, I would like to welcome you to beautiful Salt Lake City and the 70th Annual ITEA Conference--Teaching TIDE with Pride! Thank you for joining us as we celebrate the accomplishments of our colleagues and the advances in our profession, and as we seek to improve our students' learning through updating our skills and knowledge.

I would also like to welcome attendees of the Pupils' Attitudes Towards Technology (PATT-19) Conference being held in conjunction with ITEA's conference.

I trust you will find multiple opportunities to seek out professional development, either in preconference workshops, Action Labs, through the great variety of presentations, or during one of our new evening workshops.

Each year it is with great pride that ITEA can celebrate the accomplishments of excellent teachers and programs within our profession through the Teacher and Program Excellence Awards as well as other opportunities to honor those who have distinguished themselves within our profession.

Don't forget to spend some time reviewing the multitude of exhibits on the trade show floor, where the latest in equipment and materials are available for your classroom needs and upgrades.

Finally, whether you are a conference veteran or this is your first time at ITEA, you will find that making and renewing friendships and communicating with colleagues who share the same passion for Technology, Innovation, Design, and Engineering education (TIDE) will allow you to bring home valuable tools--both personally and professionally.

Whatever your needs, during the next several action-packed days, you will discover numerous chances to further develop and increase your PRIDE in TEACHING TIDE!

"Educator Astronaut in Space"

Featured Speaker: Barbara R. Morgan

"Excellence" is a theme of this general session, designed to recognize outstanding technology education programs. The top teachers in the profession will be present to network, share successes, and have their programs described.

The space shuttle Endeavour blasted off August 8, carrying seven astronauts to orbit on a complex flight to continue the assembly of the International Space Station and fulfill a long-standing human spaceflight legacy. The STS-118 space shuttle flight is the 22nd to the International Space Station, but it is unique to ITEA because one of its crew is one of our own, ITEA member Barbara R. Morgan.

Morgan is NASA's first educator mission specialist, having served as the backup to payload specialist Christa McAuliffe in the Teacher in Space Project. Morgan, who was an elementary school teacher in McCall, Idaho before being selected as McAuliffe's backup, returned to teaching after the Challenger accident. She was selected to train as a mission specialist in 1998 and was named to the STS-118 crew in 2002. Don't miss what is sure to be a very memorable keynote address by Barbara Morgan.

Featured Speaker: Dr. Steve Petrina

Dr. Petrina is a Professor of Technology Studies in the Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia. He is currently overseeing a large study of cognition and technology. He has published Advanced Teaching Methods for the Technology Classroom, and Technology, Religion, Spirituality, and the Sacred.
