The Thirtieth Annual Mid-America Conference on History will be held September 25-27, 2008, in Springfield, Missouri. Paper and session proposals on all fields and phases of history, including overview sessions and graduate student papers, will be considered. Proposals should include a paragraph about the content of each paper. The deadline for proposals is May 1, 2008. The Museum of the Confederacy is accepting nominations for the 2007 Jefferson Davis Award and the 2007-2008 Founders Award. The Davis Award is given annually for the outstanding narrative work on the period of the Confederacy. The Founders Award is given biannually for excellence in the editing of primary sources on the period of the Confederacy. In anticipation of the city of St. Augustine's 450th anniversary in 2015, the St. Augustine Historical Society is spearheading a multiyear series of programs, entitled "St. Augustine, Florida, 450 Years as a City." The first program, which will be held on February 22-23, 2008, will bring together experts on the earliest settlements attempted in today's United States. The speakers will discuss the settlements of San Miguel de Gualdape (Georgia) settled in 1526, Pensacola in 1559, Fort Caroline (Jacksonville) in 1564, Santa Elena (South Carolina) in 1566, Roanoke in 1585, and, of course, St. Augustine.
