Ms Jessica Weir was appointed as a Visiting Research Fellow in January 2007. Ms Weir is involved in three NTRU research projects: prescribed bodies corporate (PBCs); native title and land and water management; and the Gunditjmara land justice story. Ms Weir published an Issues Paper in the NTRU's Land, Rights, Laws: Issues of Native Title series outlining the potential role of PBCs in the post-native title-determination landscape; and together with Ms Toni Bauman, ran a workshop at the Native Title Conference 2007 providing feedback from the NTRU PBC workshops. Ms Weir also presented a paper and convened a session on fresh water at this conference. In Canberra, Ms Weir presented on water as a social justice issue to the Australian National University Law Students for Social Justice. Ms Weir published 'The Traditional Owner Experience Along the Murray River', in Fresh Water: New Perspectives on Water in Australia (2007). Together with Mr Steven Ross, Ms Weir has completed a chapter on native title and traditional ownership for an edited volume on the effects of native title. …
