Harold Langenderfer, retired adjunct professor of accounting at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Kenan-Flagler Business School, was the co-recipient of the 1995 American Accounting Association's Outstanding Accounting Educator Award.

The award recognizes an educator's contributions to the academic community and to bridging the gap between the professional and academic sides of accounting. Langenderfer, a member of the American Institute of CPAs, is the author of many articles. and the co-author of textbooks on accounting and income taxation.

* Lump-sum payments made to offset a health insurance deductible may not be excluded from income, according to a ruling by the Internal Revenue Service. Under a collective bargaining agreement, a company had to provide each of its employees with a $1,000 lump-sum payment to offset an annual family health insurance deductible. The IRS said the payments could not be excluded because they were not made under a health plan and the employees were eligible for the payments whether or not they had any medical expenses. …
