The study aimed to evaluate the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment (CRHT) service from the perspective of the carer, to establish if the service was meeting the needs of carers whilst caring for a service user in an acute mental health crisis. A critical appraisal of the literature was undertaken to identify research on carers' views and the impact on carers of caring for others, alongside articles related to crisis resolution services, home treatment provision and satisfaction ratings.

Research evidence relating specifically to CRHT and carers' views on service delivery was sparse. A qualitative approach underpinned by the phenomenological paradigm was adopted both to support the researcher's personal

values and professional experience, and to identify the essence of the carers' experience whilst caring for a person in an acute mental health crisis. …
