Article excerpt

January 2008

This special issue of the Canadian Journal of Regional Science deals with another aspect of knowledge cities, the role and importance of the creative class. As with many themes in regional science, the role of the creative class has been hotly debated and we have been frequently confronted by the 'chicken or egg' debate. The articles in this special issue take different perspectives on the issues involved, and still the debate continues.

The Canadian Journal of Regional Science is indebted to Professor Remy Tremblay, Canada Research Chair on Knowledge Cities, Tele-universite, Universite du Quebec a Montreal, for bringing together an outstanding list of authors to contribute to this debate. Professor Tremblay, as Guest Editor of this special issue and also in his capacity as Associate Editor of the CJRS, has played an important role as well in arranging for most of the assessments of the articles, a task he has performed with efficiency and diligence.
