Probably the most important event in the field of Austrian music libraries in 2005 was the move of the Music Department of the Austrian National Library to a new location. For decades (since 1920) the Music Department had been situated in the fourth floor of Albertina building; because of lack of space a new building (in fact an old one) was acquired and adapted: Palais Mollard-Clary in Herrengasse 9, situated in the close vicinity of the National Library area. The move took place from August to October 2005. 7,000 meters of holdings had to be transported, and the new Music Department opened in November 2005. The card catalogues were converted from 2001 to 2005 to an online-catalogue, which is available now by the website of the Austrian National Library (www.onb.ac.at).

The Mozart year 2006 caused a lot of events and activities in Austria, even in the field of libraries. Mozart exhibitions were organized by the Archive of Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde and by the Da Ponte Institute, which showed a variety of valuable Mozart manuscripts owned by libraries from all over the world. …
