Work on a New Catalogue of the Works of Luigi Boccherini

Following the deliberation of the Comitato Nazionale Luigi Boccherini on 16 July 2005 to create the Centro Studi Luigi Boccherini in Lucca, the decision has been reached to give priority to the revision of the Catalogue of the Works of Luigi Boccherini (Oxford University Press, London, 1969), edited by Yves Gerard. This is the main reference work for all research about Luigi Boccherini.

The Comitato Nazionale has approved, with a unanimous vote on 8 March 2006, the proposal of an agreement between the Centro Studi Luigi Boccherini and Yves Gerard in order to realize the above-mentioned project. Prof. Gerard, who holds the copyright of the printed volume and of its contents, will direct, together with a working group (composed by Giulio Battelli, Remigio Coli, Marco Mangani, Agostina Zecca Laterza and Gabriella Biagi Ravenni), the work of revision of the Catalogue.

The project is actually in progressing within different steps:

1) acquisition in a digital form of images of every page of Catalogue's version published in 1969, already published on the web, in the Comitato and Centro Studi Boccherini's site

2) definition of criteria, presently in discussion, for the edition of new records, related with those of published Catalogue in various manners:

a. a record with the same contents, but newly edited

b. a record with new or different data

c. a new record to catalogue works discovered after 1969.

The criteria will be established in order to allow web publication and therefore they will be consider XML encoding in order to enable every type of queries of the catalogue, included the one of musical incipit

3) progressive introduction of new records, as they are edited, beside the old ones, in order to make easy to switch from the old to new one, and vice-versa. …
