Kathleen M. Huebner of Salus University (formerly the Pennsylvania College of Optometry) will receive the Ambrose M. Shotwell award. Named for teacher, organizer, and librarian Ambrose Shotwell, the award has been presented since 1939 to an individual who has made significant outstanding contributions to the personal adjustment or rehabilitation of adults who are blind or visually impaired. Dr. Huebner is professor and associate dean for the College of Education and Rehabilitation, as well as codirector of the National Center for Leadership in Visual Impairment at Salus University. Dr. Huebner has been the recipient of federal grants to support personnel preparation programs, curricula and product development, and research through the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services Administration, Office of Special Education Programs. She is widely published, having authored numerous books and countless journal articles, as well as providing presentations and keynote speeches at conferences around the world. In addition, Dr. Huebner was coguest editor for two special issues of JVIB: the 2005 JVIB Special Issue on O&M and the 2001 JVIB Special Issue on Distance Education. Dr. Huebner's expertise is sought by organizations around the globe, and she has been appointed to and served on numerous boards, including the Editorial Advisory Board of JVIB, the Editorial Advisory Panel for the Australian International Journal of Orientation and Mobility, and Board of Directors for the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals, and the Advisory Council of the National Deaf-Blind Center. …
