Former Banker to Test Virtual Venture Capital Fair

Nowadays it's common for people with a promising young company but limited capital to seek out expanded investment funding from venture capital firms and investors at venture capital "fairs' sponsored here and there by entrepreneurial organizations. This is somewhat more productive than simply relying on word of mouth and personal connections, but you still have to wait for the fair to come around and for the right backer to attend.

But now a former commercial banker is piloting a site on the World Wide Web that will enable the capital-hungry to strut their stuff for investors remotely.

The new service, CapitaLink, was developed by Richard D. Crawford, president of New Vision Financial, Inc., Arlington, Va., with data processing assistance from Coopers & Lybrand. The service, which is expected to be launched in pilot form in September in the Washington-Baltimore area, allows companies to list information about themselves in a variety of formats, including text, still pictures, and limited motion video. …
