Is Your Firm Making the Best Use of Technology?

CD-ROM, e-mail, auditing software, tax software even small firms are inundated with so much new technology that they may not realize what they need or make the best use of what they have. In larger firms, many may not even know what technology is available to them. Each firm partner--and other staff members, if they're involved should answer the following questions, forward them to the managing partner or other moderator and get together to discuss the results.

1. What is the greatest benefit to you from using computer technology?

2. What was the greatest obstacle when you began using computer technology and how did you overcome it?

3. Are you satisfied with your firm's computer system? If not, why?

4. Is your system up-to-date? If not, what needs upgrading?

5. What percentage of gross revenues should the firm spend on keeping current with technology?

6. Does the firm have a policy on acquiring hardware and software?

7. Are you satisfied with the firm's maintenance of its computer system? If not, why?

8. Is the firm recognized in the community and by its clients as being a leader in technology?

9. What percentage of your work do you perform using computers? …
