What does it mean to be a member of a non-profit organization? Your membership is responsible for building the capacity of the organization to carry out its mission. If you volunteer your time and skills, then it is up to the organization to make your experience rewarding and connect you to a community of advocates. NABT is a non-profit organization that depends largely on its volunteer members and partners to effect change in K-12, undergraduate, and graduate biology education.

I have had the opportunity to visit with many grant-funded biology education resource developers and researchers over the past few years. Their major problem isn't development, testing, or giving educators access to the resources; it's the implementation into the classroom. There is never enough funding to support several thousand teachers in a proven professional development process. Students in teacher education programs and graduate programs with teaching responsibility are inaccessible as well. Enter NABT and its volunteer membership. Regional and state level affiliate networks are an untapped resource that most of the developers and researchers I spoke with had not even considered. …
