The time between writing an article and finally seeing it appear in a journal is much longer than any of us would wish, and this journal is no exception. David Wood, Chief Executive Officer of the Curriculum Council of Western Australia, has written to point out that the article Western Australia's 'English' course of study: To OBE or not to OBE, perhaps that is the question by Richard Berlach and Michael O'Neill in Volume 52, No 1, 2008, describes Western Australia's Year 11 and 12 English course and Year 12 examination at the time of writing, but does not reflect a number of changes that were being planned in 2007 and are currently being implemented.

Mr Wood explains as follows:

All Year 11 and 12 Western Australian courses, including English and Literature, have been rewritten and now have detailed syllabus content for each unit. Assessment is undertaken using analytical marking keys and examinations are linked directly to the syllabus content.

During 2007 an English teacher 'jury' of fifty randomly selected English teachers gave extensive and detailed recommendations about changes to both the English course and its exam. Some of the points raised in the article were addressed in these recommendations.

During 2007, an English Reference Group extensively revised the course in response to detailed recommendations from a 'jury' of fifty selected English teachers. …
