Eagles Educate Lead School Supply Drive

At Florida Gulf Coast University, we have a student Branch known as Eagles Educate/ ACEI. Within our Branch, we work throughout the school year to educate and make a difference within our community through a combined effort of community members.

In November of 2007, our student Branch completed a school supply drive to donate to local elementary and middle schools in Lee, Charlotte, and Collier Counties. We have found that teachers often end up buying supplies for their students. To show our appreciation for classroom teachers, Eagles Educate/ ACEI members set up boxes to gather school supplies on campus, as well as going out into the community searching for donors.

We had enormous support from Wal-Mart, Staples, and the Dollar Tree. These companies truly extended an effort to make this school supply drive a huge success. Eagles Educate members then split up the gathered donations of school supplies. The schools in need of supplies were identified by College of Education students who were out in the schools for their internship placements. Eagles Educate / ACEI members and students in the College of Education at FGCU then volunteered to deliver boxes of school supplies to the schools in need. …
