The Arkansas Women's History Institute announces its call for submissions for the 2009 Susie Pryor Award in Arkansas Women's History. The award offers a $1,000 prize annually for the best unpublished essay on topics in Arkansas women's history. Manuscripts are judged on their contributions to knowledge of women in Arkansas's history, use of primary and secondary materials, and analytical and stylistic excellence. The winning paper may be published. The deadline for submission is February 15, 2009. The winner will be announced at the annual meeting of the Arkansas Historical Association, April 23-25, 2009. The Agricultural History Society presented its 2008 Wayne D. Rasmussen Award for the best article on agricultural history published outside Agricultural History to Pete Daniel for his essay, "African American Farmers and Civil Rights," which appeared in the Journal of Southern History (73 [February 2007], 3-38). Daniel's essay was originally delivered as the presidential address at the seventy-second annual meeting of the Southern Historical Association in Birmingham, Alabama. …
